Escati Tiger Team – Walking to Mae Chan

Friday 7th August, 1998. We started walking from “King Mengrai Monument” at 06.45 hrs and had coffee, once we had crossed the bridge over the Kok river. It took 9 kms to get out of town. A spectacular and scenic walk to Mae Chan. We met many people all day and the northern hospitality was tremendous. We were excited to be “Walking For Thailand” having already walked such a long way to get here!

We had been recommended accomodation at “E.D.H. – GH” by Mr Neil at Tossers Bar in Chiang Rai and we had a plan to find it. I had previously phoned Martin, the owner and estimated our arrival time at 16.00 hrs. We arrived at “Every Day A Holiday” Guest House at 16.00 hrs and met Martin and Goi and joined their wonderful family atmosphere. They had a lovely house and we had a big spaghetti for our evening meal. Martin looked at our walk on the internet:

We were asleep by 22.00 hrs and dreaming about ”Walking For Thailand” and arriving in Mae Sai tomorrow.

Yours truly,

Escati Tiger Team Walking For Thailand.
