Dennis Peacock has lived in Hat Yai, southern Thailand since 1994. He is English and in his early 50's.
In April 1996 Dennis broke his leg in a motor cycle accident and as a part of his self therapy has walked 100's of kilometers around southern Thailand.
"I'm going to walk around Thailand, from the south to the north, through the east and back to the south again, through all the Provinces of Thailand", he told me.
"I want to help Thailand and the Thai people with their current financial problems", he added.
Dennis is an experienced Chartered Accountant and has worked both in America and Europe. He has been avidly reading all he can on the economic woes of South East Asia. "I'm going to talk to the ordinary Thai people and give them some ideas about how they can help their own country", he told me.
"I'm going to start from Padang Besar, at 8am on Wednesday 11th February, which is a Thai holiday, a Priest day and a full moon. It's a good day to start", he said.
His 'Walk For Thailand' will take him anything up to two years. I have known Dennis for 20 years and he is a kind and caring person. He loves Thailand, where he is settled and lives in harmony with his many Thai friends.
He has a vision and it is his own decision and his own determination which is driving him to undertake this enormous task.
We have talked for many hours about his plan and I believe he is doing it completely selflessly for exactly the reason he has stated, "It is my way of doing something for Thailand".
Since Krabi Dennis had had the constant companionship of William, a Thai Buddhist monk. I met William whilst he and Dennis were in Phuket and can tell you he is one of those rare characters with immense charm and personality. He has walked the forests and rural districts of Thailand for many years and has decided to accompany Dennis to support him in his endevour.
