Hash House Harriers

A great way of meeting some very crazy people when you Escape to Thailand is to go on a Hash…It’s the best way to meet many new friends both Thai and those who have been successful in their own Escape to Thailand…

“You’re only young once…But you can stay immature forever!”

A Hash is a group of runners, walkers, beer drinkers who meet regularly and enjoy themselves…They do some crazy things after the run, like making you sit on a block of ice and then pouring a bucket of icy water slowly over your head…

I have been to several Hashes in Songkhla over the years and was iced every time. Next time I go, I shall be iced again as they keep a record of all attendances and will penalize me for not attending for a while and the ice ritual is the punishment…

This excellent website gives you all the HHH links to all of Thailand…

No problem – Join the HASH

In Jordan, 5 years ago, my punishment for only coming once or twice was a series of "down-downs" until I nearly fell down down!!!

If you did something outrageous, you were "baptized" with beer & given a HASH NAME.
For example, the smallest Jordanian girl in the AMMAN HASH HOUSE HARRIERS was Itsybitseyteenyweenie!

My name was "Do Wadi Wadi", in honor of leading dangerous treks for 2 years down Jordan’s Rift Valley canyons with hot rivers & waterfalls. Our adventure group was called "The commandoes"…

The "new commandoes", led by my successor, Yamaan, who is a real-life "Rambo" with Duke of Edinburgh Award offers superb canyon adventures…

For a really "other-planet" exciting trekking or abseiling experience in the Rift Valley & Dead Sea area….

    Hi Yamaan!!!

THE AMMAN HASH HOUSE HARRIERS took their barrels of draught beer into the sand desert at Wadi Rumm…Nabataean Petra, Gulf of Aqaba, the Dead Sea & basalt Rift Valley canyons…Maybe the best meal I ever tasted was a Bedouin feast of whole lambs,
which had been buried underground in hot coals, washed down with draft beer, at a Palestinian land-owner’s swimming pool in the Jordan Valley…
